The California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress
(CASPP) requires students to CREATE answers, not just select
them. Knox Education has designed new tools to help teachers show
students how to share their thinking in writing.
The Cue Card and Great Answers posters remind students of the
steps in these complex tasks. The handbook suggests how to teach
the written response skills and includes a backwards map to the
testing days for including these lessons in your spring teaching
plan.
The teacher and student versions of Smarter Balanced (SBAC)
documents include the academic language used, sample question
stems, and sample questions for review and practice so your
students will be ready.
If you would like any of these materials customized for your
school or district, or if you would like Charlotte Knox
to deliver onsite training for these techniques to improve
your results, please contact us!

The Academic Language documents have samples of the academic
words used in SBAC CAASPP tests that students need to understand
in order to be able to answer effectively.
The Constructed Response Practice Student Versions have only the
text they are supposed to read and a flexible box in which to
type in their written responses that expands as they type. These
questions have been taken from current SBAC practice tests on the
SBAC website.
The Teacher Version of Academic Language
lists includes the academic language as used in SBAC tests
alongside the standards being addressed with the testing
language.
The Teacher Version of the Constructed Response
Practice documentsincludes the
samples taken from current SBAC practice tests available as well
as the SBAC rubric used and explanation and exemplars for the
answers to the questions.
