Common Core Standards suggest that students read and synthesize
information across multiple texts and online resources, then use
their learning to write informational pieces citing evidence from
those sources. We’ve designed an approach to
planning for and teaching these units which
draws on existing science and social studies content and
textbooks, while guiding students through authentic reading and
writing projects. Here are sample planners and calendars
developed by teachers with Charlotte’s guidance around the
state.

Here are year-long planners to help teachers backwards map the
standards from benchmark assessments and SBAC. Planning this
way allows teachers to literally “see” possibilities for
integrating literacy standards with content.
At Knox Education we help districts and schools design
their ELA planning based on these standards and their curriculum
goals. If you would like this resource for your school or
